Taking an entry-level job is a great way to get into a company and then work your way up. But one of the biggest disadvantages of entry-level jobs is that they typically pay very little. In fact, many entry-level jobs don’t even pay enough for the employee to afford to live independently. However, there are exceptions. These four entry-level jobs pay better than most.

1. Public Relations Assistant

A public relations assistant helps a public relations company do research, prepare materials and act as a liaison between clients and the PR company. Some estimates put the salary of a public relations assistant at about $46,000 per year.

2. Paralegal

Even if you’re not planning on becoming a lawyer someday, you might consider working as a paralegal. A paralegal is simply a legal secretary who works in a law firm, performing administrative tasks for one lawyer or a group of lawyers. Paralegals can earn up to about $50,000 per year.

3. Human Resources Assistant

A human resources assistant helps the human resources department to manage all of the tasks associated with employees and benefits. In this role, you may be helping to conduct training seminars, helping employees file Insurance claims or explaining the various benefits that the company offers. Human resources assistants make up to about $55,000 per year.

4. Sales Representative

Sales representatives don’t need to have any kind of specific college degree, but they do need to be able to sell. The job duties may include cold calling, emailing prospective clients and making on-site visits to companies and buyers in a particular region. The salary for a sales representative is dependent on their ability to sell, but the national average is about $66,000 per year.

If you’re still in a place in your career where you need to get an entry-level job, one of these options might work well for you. The salaries are certainly more attractive and some of the lower entry level jobs available.
